Hard to believe that we haven’t held an Apple Day since 2019. Covid and life just got in the way, I guess.
Delighted to say that we’re back this year on Sunday 8th October. It will be a slightly smaller affair and we’re organising it through WhatsApp. Just message me or Jane if you’d like to come and we’ll add you to the group.
Cambridge Apple Day is a small scale private event for friends, family, and neighbours. If you’re looking for a public event in Cambridge, check out the events at the Botanic Gardens and Burwash Manor. Both great days out.
For those who are attending our little event, now is a good time to get scrumping. If you need any sacks, just pop round (we’ve got loads). Remember that we’re looking for a mix of cider apples, eating apples, and a few cooking / crab apples. No pears though.
Windfalls are fine, providing they don’t come from orchards with livestock in and you discard anything that looks rotten, mouldy, or as though it is infested with creepy crawlies. Try to keep them dry or drop them round my house and I’ll store them until the big day.
If you find a spot with lots of apples and need some help, let me know and I’ll send Phil McB round!
If anyone wants to help me dust off the kit next weekend (Saturday 30th), just pop round. It will be combined with a cider tasting session, so leave the car at home.
Philip.
